When do I use epsom salt ?

Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate or magnesium sulfate heptahydrate (MgSO4·7H2O), it provides available magnesium and sulfur to plants in cases when primary fertilizers do not provide an adequate supply. Miracle Grow (15-30-15), for example, provides no magnesium (make sure to check its guaranteed analysis).

Epsom salt should only be used when magnesium deficiency has been identified as a result of low levels of magnesium in the media.

It is important to know the pH of your media as well as your nutrient solution as magnesium deficiency most often manifests itself as a result of pH lockout; if the improper pH effectively stops Mg uptake immediately. Mg can also be locked out by excessive amounts of potassium and calcium (or too little calcium). If neither of these conditions exists, the cultivar needs more magnesium. NEVER, key word is SALT!! There are plenty of available nutrients systems that provide all the elements necessary without creating Nutrient lock-up with ANY salts!!
